The objective the Direct Sponsorship Program (DSP)

To enable vulnerable children to live a more dignified life in a community environment conducive to their full development and potential.

AMSODE has developed the Direct Sponsorship Program to make a direct and far more effective and sustainable contribution to improving the lives of thousands of children in Mali. AMSODE’s child sponsorship model is based on a carefully thought-out, community-based approach. The aim is to establish and maintain close and lasting protective relationships with the sponsored children and their families. It offers a holistic package of sponsorship activities, communication initiatives and humanitarian and development interventions, with the support of sponsors/donors. Children can be sponsored up to the age of 18, in accordance with Malian regulations. AMSODE’s sponsorship programs are centered on the 5 Commitments and provide an individual and community response.

Solidarity is the key to breaking the cycle of By sponsoring a child, you become an actor in the change. "

Promote access and quality education for every child

The DSP ensures that all vulnerable children have access to quality education, which is essential for their future. To achieve this goal, AMSODE is setting up sponsorship programs that cover school fees, uniforms, school supplies and more. Training workshops are also organized for teachers, focusing on innovative and inclusive teaching methods. In collaboration with local authorities, AMSODE supports the construction and rehabilitation of schools in rural areas, while promoting literacy courses for out-of-school children. Finally, regular monitoring is provided to assess academic progress and offer personalized support to pupils in difficulty.

Strengthening health and well-being of every child

To improve children’s health, AMSODE through the DSP develops awareness-raising campaigns on hygiene practices and disease prevention in schools and communities. Partnerships with local health centers enable the organization of free medical consultations and vaccination programs. AMSODE also provides health kits including basic medicines, impregnated mosquito nets to combat malaria, and basic necessities for needy families. Reproductive health education sessions are organized for adolescents, enabling them to better understand and manage the challenges linked to their physical and mental well-being.

Promote children's rights in a protective environment

The DSP raises community awareness of children’s rights, in particular by combating child labor, early marriage and all forms of violence. Children’s and youth clubs are set up in schools to encourage their participation in defending their rights. AMSODE also works with social services to strengthen mechanisms for reporting and responding to abuse and neglect. Media campaigns are launched to inform families and communities about child protection laws and policies. Finally, specialized training is offered to community agents to enable them to better respond to the needs of children at risk.

Facilitating access to drinking water and a healthy environment in the community

The DSP strives to improve access to drinking water for children in disadvantaged communities by installing hand pumps and rehabilitating existing water infrastructures. Initiatives are implemented to raise awareness among families of good hygiene practices, such as hand-washing and household waste management. Through the DSP, AMSODE also distributes hygiene kits containing soap, towels and water filters. In collaboration with schools, separate toilets for girls and boys will be built to promote a healthy learning environment. These actions help to reduce the spread of water-borne diseases and ensure a better living environment for children and their families.
